🎓 A Dynamic Way to Plan for College Costs
Obtaining a college degree remains one of the most important steps toward long-term economic success. However, with tuition and related expenses at record highs, many families struggle to fund education efficiently.
The College Planning Services program from LPL Enterprises helps parents understand and coordinate all aspects of college financing — including college funding strategies, tax incentives, and savings strategies — into one cohesive plan designed to preserve overall financial clarity.
Useful Resources
Financial aid applications play a crucial role in helping families manage the cost of college. Generally, public colleges require only the Free for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), while many private institutions ask for both the FAFSA and the CSS Profile. Understanding these requirements is for parents to ensure their children receive the financial support they need for higher education. By completing these, families can access various funding options, grants, loans, and scholarships.

The Student Aid Index (SAI)—formerly known as the Expected Family Contribution (EFC)—is a key component in determining financial aid eligibility. By completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), families receive an official SAI used by colleges to calculate need-based aid.

College Funding Strategies
Common Mistakes
Sections and questions will be marked as to whether they are about the student or the parent. However, one of the most common mistakes parents make is to answer “Student Status” questions for themselves and not for their student. Most high school seniors will not have legal dependents they support, nor will they be veterans.
Noncustodial Parent Accounts
Most common: If you are a noncustodial parent, you will need to create a College Board student account using your (the parent's) information.

Other Parent Accounts
If you are the primary parent and do not want to share financial information on your student's account, you may create a separate College Board student account using your (the parent's) information.
